Juan Diasgranados joined the news team of WPTV-West Palm Beach in July 2012. He is currently a multimedia journalist and reporter for Around Town on WPTV. As a committed SFBJA member, Diasgranados has selflessly given his time to help SFBJA reach out to university students at the University of Miami and other local institutions.
Juan was very active in the Hampton University and Washington, D.C., chapters of the National Association of Black Journalists. When asked why he became involved in SFBJA, he said: “Five years ago, I had never heard of NABJ. I applied for the NABJ radio practicum workshop at NPR in Washington, D.C., and absolutely loved it. The instructors taught us the basics, and gave us the ins and outs of basic radio and how the industry operated. Since then, I have attended three NABJ conventions, a multi-media short course, and even earned an all-expense paid internship in New York City through NABJ. To this day, I keep in contact with all of my mentors who invested so much into me. So, now it’s my turn to help others. I reach out to local schools to show students that, yes, you can succeed. It is possible to get a good job right out of college.”
A graduate of the Scripps Howard School of Journalism and Communications at Hampton University, during his tenure there Juan interned at many news organizations, including the Scripps Semester in Washington program, WRC-NBC4 in Washington D.C., and MSNBC in New York.
Congratulations to Juan, and we are proud to call him a member of the South Florida Black Journalists Association!
