Erika Brown began her journalism career at KOMU-TV in Columbia, Missouri, after earning a bachelor’s degree in journalism at the University of Missouri. She also gained valuable work experience at KFVS-TV in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Then, an executive producer in Miami called Erika and said he had a position he thought she would like. He was right! She came to WSVN-TV Channel 7 in 1999 as a news producer and has lived in Miami ever since. “I love Miami too much to leave,” she declared.
Erika said that South Florida is the only area she has lived in that had a local NABJ chapter. She has served as membership chair for the South Florida chapter, and is regularly asked to judge scholarship award entries. She often gives students a tour of the television station and puts them in contact with professionals as they grow in their careers.
When Erika is not at work, you can find her in the gym, on a stand-up paddle board, on rollerblades, on a bike, walking a dog, or at the dog beach. She has a passion for dogs and also has her own pet-sitting business.
